Nearly a Thousand Cyclists to Partake in Tour de Bintan 2022

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Head of the Bintan Regency Tourism Agency in the Riau Islands Province, Arif Sumarsono said that the winner of the Tour de Bintan 2022 can participate in the upcoming 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships. 

"Winners of the Tour de Bintan in each category are the top three or 20 percent of the first participants who reach the finish line. They will participate in the Glasgow title," said Sumarsono on Monday, September 19, 2022, Antaranews reported. 

Event organizers claimed that there are 946 cyclists from 45 countries who have registered for the Tour de Bintan event that will be held from October 14 to October 16, 2022.  Most of the participants come from Singapore (40 percent), followed by the United Kingdom (13 percent), Australia (7 percent), Indonesia (5 percent), and Malaysia (4 percent). Then America, Japan, Germany, France about 3 percent, the Philippines, Hong Kong about 2 percent, and other countries around 16 percent.

The bicycle race will start from the Simpang Lagoi area. The length of the route varies based on the category in which the participant register.

The categories in the Tour de Bintan consist of Time Trial covering a length of 175 kilometers, Grand Fondo Challenge (85 kilometers), Grand Fondo Classic (146 kilometers), Grand Fondo Century (108 kilometers), and Grand Fondo Discovery (55 kilometers).
