TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo, or Jokowi, has ordered his state ministers and government officials to perform exceptionally in their line of work and avoid mediocracy and routines as the global condition is not at its best.
"We can't just do standard work, not anymore, because the situation is not normal. We can't work routinely, because the situation is not normal," said Jokowi at the Opening of the 2022 National Coordination Meeting for Inflation Control at the State Palace, on August 18.
In his statement, the President reiterated the pandemic that has yet to end and asserted that amidst all that, have emerged other crises such as the war between Russia and Ukraine, food crisis, energy crisis, and financial crisis, which affect the country.
“This is what I meant when the situation has turned difficult,” said Jokowi.
The President also requested that regents, mayors, and governors really want to cooperate with the regional and central inflation control teams. Based on records from Bank Indonesia and the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, inflation in Indonesia currently reach 4.94 percent or higher than the inflation target of 3 percent +/- 1 percent, but is still lower than in other countries.
"Look at other countries, [inflation has turned] really high, above 5. Some have reached 79 percent, the European Union at 8.9 percent, the United States at 9.1, and yesterday, it fell 8.5 percent, not something that easy and this is the scourge of all countries," Jokowi asserted.
