TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Metro Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Endra Zulpan asked GP Ansor and Banser to cancel their planned sweeps on Holywings bars. The youth wings of the country’s largest Islamic organization, Nahdlatul Ulama (NU), reportedly planned to urge the nightclubs to shut down after allegedly committing blasphemy.
Zulpan said the police were aware of the planned convoy through a leaflet circulating on social media. He asserted that the convoy was obviously not authorized, so he hoped it would not proceed.
“Regarding the call for a convoy to Holywings on the leaflets we received, the Metro Jaya Police urge the public not to do this,” said Zulpan at the Metro Jaya Police HQ, Jakarta, Friday, June 24, 2022.
He said such a convoy was unnecessary because the police had received two reports of an alleged blasphemy committed by the bar management over its latest deal of free alcoholic beverages for any of their visitors whose names are Muhammad and Maria.
“We have received the reports and of course, the Metro Jaya Police will handle this case professionally. Investigators have now conducted an investigation,” said Zulpan.
If they insisted to hold the convoy, the police would certainly deploy police officers to provide security as it is the right of all people.
In the circulating leaflets, GP Ansor and Banser planned to hold motorbike convoy to Holywings bars located in Kemang, Kebayoran Baru, Kuningan, Kelapa Gading, Tanjung Duren, Kalideres, Gatot Subroto, Senayan, SCBD, PIK, and Pondok Indah. They will start at 19:00 Jakarta time at the GP Ansor HQ.
