Aceh Flooding Subsides, BNPB Warns of Subsequent Downpour

15 May 2024 07:27 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta Flooding due to the Krueng Kulu and Krueng Tadu Rivers overflow in Nagan Raya Regency, Aceh, has gradually receded. Referring to the report from the Operations Control Center of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) as of Tuesday morning, May 14, 2024, the water that had been stagnant since the day before, early Monday morning, was decreasing gradually.

Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information and Communication Center, Abdul Muhari, said the flood had submerged more than 480 housing units in four sub-districts. The four areas affected include Tadu Raya District, Beutong District, Kuala District, and Suka Makmue District.

According to Muhari, the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) for Nagan Raya Regency warns that there is still the potential for moderate to heavy downpours with strong winds on May 14 and 15,  2024.

Muhari urged the residents and government in Nagan Raya Regency to anticipate the risk of subsequent flooding. With rainfall still high, the public is asked to continue monitoring the weather and following directions from disaster agencies.

"If it rains for an hour and visibility is not clear at around 50 centimeters, immediately evacuate independently to a higher and safer place," said Muhari.
