TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Formula E race in Jakarta managed to attract over 13.4 million viewers on live TV broadcasts. It was the biggest-ever live audience of a race from a single national market in the electric car race history, said the Federation Internationale de I'Automobile (FIA).
The Jakarta E-Prix was broadcasted live on two Indonesian TV stations, RCTI and MNC. Formula E Chief Media Officer, Aarti Dabas, said the event clearly appeals to the huge and passionate motorsport fanbase in Indonesia.
"The Jakarta E-Prix made history twice as our first race in Indonesia and for attracting the biggest live audience from a single market," he said as quoted on the official FIA Formula E website on Friday, June 17.
The world-class event was held in Jakarta International E-Prix Circuit (JIEC), Ancol, North Jakarta on Saturday, June 4. It was attended by President Joko Widodo or Jokowi, House (DPR) Speaker Puan Maharani, MPR Chief Bambang Soesatyo, as well as a number of ministers and political party chiefs.
A sell-out crowd of more than 60,000 fans attended the Jakarta E-Prix and watched the festival at Ancol Beach. Short-form highlights of Jakarta E-Prix have been viewed more than 1.2 million times on YouTube with race week content across all social media platforms totaling more than 22.6 million impressions, beating all season milestones to date.
Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan was satisfied with the event he claimed to be successful. However, the Jakarta DPRD council from the PDIP party, Gilbert Simanjuntak, questioned the success parameter of Jakarta Formula E. He challenged Anies and the Jakarta Government to provide valid data about the event.
It needs a third party to obtain the data through an audit. “The data would definitely be needed and it would properly be done if there is an audit by a third party,” he said.
Jakarta Deputy Governor Ahmad Riza Patria let the Jakarta E-Prix be audited as he said that it is a common thing to do an audit.
"Go ahead," he said at the Jakarta City Hall on Thursday, June 16. He added that it was not only done for the Formula E race but every event would also go through a process and evaluation.
