House Speaker Maharani Lauds Sexual Violence Bill Ratification

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - House of Representative (DPR) Speaker Puan Maharani on Thursday in the 20th Plenary Meeting mentioned the importance of the passing of the sexual violence criminal offense (TPKS) bill into law. The House Speaker said the law can act as a guideline for law enforcers in solving cases categorized as such in the future.
“This is our collective commitment to eradicate any room for sexual violence in Indonesia,” she said on April 14.
Maharani also asked the government to immediately create derivatives for the Law as it is crucial for the law’s implementation in the field. She also said that the actual tangible form of the law is essential to solve sexual violence cases, to better protect women and children across the nation.
During the House Plenary session, the DPR Speaker also reported a number of improvements in the legislation that the House is formulating. These include the Personal Data Protection Bill, Disaster Mitigation Bill, and State Apparatus Bill which are all undergoing first stage deliberation.
