Puan Maharani Asks Govt to Immediately Prep Sexual Violence Derivative Rules

13 April 2022 12:47 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaThe House of Representatives (DPR) speaker Puan Maharani asked the government to immediately draw up derivative rules of the sexual violence or TPKS Law which was passed yesterday, April 12, in the plenary meeting.

According to Puan, regulations derived from the TPKS Law are needed to be prepared immediately so that the law can be implemented and serve as guidelines for the apparatus in dealing with and resolving cases of sexual assault.

“This is now the time for the TPKS Law to be translated into technical policies so that the spirit of its preparation can be felt immediately in its real form, including to resolve cases of sexual violence and protect women and children in Indonesia,” said Puan in a written statement, Tuesday, April 13.

An activist from Maju Perempuan Indonesia, Titi Anggraini, said the derivative rules must be issued immediately, including those about the source, allocation, and usage of victim aid funds, as well as the provisions for deletion and/or termination of access to electronic information and/or electronic documents containing the criminal acts.

“Besides, the Presidential Regulation (PP) should also regulates the provisions on procedures for handling, protection, and recovery of victims and provisions for the prevention of sexual violence acts,” Titi added.

She also said that a Presidential Regulation on integrated services for victim’s recovery after the judicial process would be necessary.

Minister of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection, I Gusti Ayu Bintang Darmawati, said on Tuesday, April 12, that the government would move quickly so that the sexual violence bill would be soon applicable.
