TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati urged Pertamina upstream subsidiary PT Pertamina Hulu Rokan to increase oil and gas production in the Rokan oil and gas block which was formerly managed by United States-based energy firm Chevron.
Sri, who is also the Deputy Chair of the Upstream Oil and Gas Special Regulatory Taskforce (SKK Migas) Supervisory Commission, said the hike in production could boost state revenues.
“The Finance Ministry hopes it (Pertamina) can increase production,” said Sri in an official statement, Sunday, March 27.
In an effort to increase oil and gas production in the Rokan block, she added, Pertamina Hulu Rokan is suggested to consider local workers according to their competencies and implement Local Business Development (LBD) program around the operational area.
Sri Mulyani also asked Pertamina Hulu Rokan to continue to develop and train human resources in the block to prove that Indonesia is capable of managing its own resources.
Pertamina President Director Nicke Widyawati expressed optimism that the firm could maintain and soon increase production from the oil and gas block.
The Rokan oil and gas block is the second-largest oil and gas block in the country and contributes a third of Pertamina's total oil production or almost a quarter of the national production with an average annual production of around 160,000 barrels of oil per day (BOPD) for the period of September to December 2021.
