TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian central statistics agency, Statistics Indonesia or BPS, said that Indonesia's trade with Russia and Ukraine has been negligible. According to BPS chief Margo Yuwono, the contributions of imports and exports with the two currently warring nations in the last year were less than one percent.

"If we look at the contribution, both exports, and imports, with two countries they are not too big," Margo said in a press conference in Jakarta, Tuesday, March 15.

According to Margo, Indonesia's exports to Russia contributed only 0.65 percent to national exports. Meanwhile, the contribution of imports is only 0.64 percent of Indonesia's total imports. In January and February 2022, Indonesia's exports to Russia only accounted for 0.84 percent of the total, while imports from Russia accounted for one percent.

In 2021, Indonesia's trade with Russia recorded a surplus of US$239.8 million. Meanwhile, in January-February 2022 there was a trade deficit of US$15 million.

With Ukraine, Indonesia's exports to Ukraine were 0.18 percent of the total in 2021, while imports accounted for 0.53 percent. In January and February 2022, Indonesia's total exports to Ukraine were 0.07 percent and imports were 0.10 percent.

In 2021, Indonesia's trade with Ukraine experienced a deficit of US$623.9 million. In January and February this year, the trade deficit was US$6.9 million.
