TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - MRT Jakarta will start accommodating 100 percent of passengers starting Monday, March 14. The physical distancing labels on the train had also been removed.
Corporate Secretary Head Rendi Alhial said the policy is the implementation of the Jakarta Transportation Agency Decree No. 145 of 2022 on the enforcement of public mobility restrictions or PPKM Level 2.
It is also based on the Transportation Ministry’s Circular No. 25 of 2022 which regulates the maximum 100 percent capacity of passengers for mass transportation located in regions under PPKM Level 2.
“As the policies are adjusted, the maximum passenger capacity of MRT is 86 people per car or 516 people per train set,” said Rendi in an official statement as quoted by Antara, Sunday, March 13.
The train’s operating hours also returned to normal from 5 a.m. to 9.30 p.m. local time on weekdays or Monday-Friday with five-minute intervals during peak hours, 7-9 a.m. and 5-9 p.m., and 10-minutes intervals outside peak hours.
On weekends, the train operates from 6 a.m. to 9.30 p.m. with 10-minutes intervals.
Despite no capacity limits, commuters are required to comply with strict COVID-19 health protocols in an effort to prevent virus transmission, such as wearing masks and maintaining hand hygiene by washing with soap.
Additionally, MRT Jakarta still prohibits commuters from talking during trips and asks all to scan a QR code via the PeduliLindungi mobile app before entering the train.
