TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The North Sumatra Police on Monday are reportedly questioning former Langkat regent Terbit Rencana Perangin Angin over the human cage that was found in his residence.
The interrogation was conducted at the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) headquarters in South Jakarta. “KPK facilitated the interrogation of one of its detainees under the initials TRP,” said KPK acting spokesman Ali Fikri on February 14.
Prior to the police questioning, the regent was questioned by the National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM) on February 7 for the same issue, which is the existence of a prison-like cage where the former regent kept people detained.
Komnas HAM commissioner Choirul Anam said the commission was studying Terbit’s role in the case and the alleged reports of violence and torture the detainees had endured during their time inside the cage.
The human rights group also revealed a report suggesting that at least three people the former regent detained had died. News about this shocked the country after KPK investigators arrested the former regent in a sting operation at his house.
