TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-Owned Enterprises or SOE Minister Erick Thohir continued to encourage collaboration between Gesits and ride-hailing firms Gojek and Grab so that the electric motorbike could be used by online motorbike taxi drivers.
“We are continuing to collaborate Gesits with Gojek and Grab,” said Erick in a seminar at the University of Lampung broadcasted online, Sunday, January 30.
He underlined that Indonesia must not just produce nickel and turn it into electric batteries. The homegrown electric motorcycles and cars could also be realized, he added.
As reported by its official website gesitsmotors.com, Gesits is an electric motorcycle claimed to be the work of the nation's children. It is a collaborative product initiated by the Ministry of Research and Technology in tandem with the Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS). The motorbike is manufactured in a factory located in Cileungsi, Bogor, West Java.
The electric scooter uses a 5 kW electric motor. On a single charge, it can be operated for about 50 kilometers for a single battery and 100 kilometers for a dual battery.
The electric motorcycle producer PT Wika Industri Manufaktur (WIMA) GM Sales and Marketing, Abdullah Alwi said 4,000 Gesits have been sold and distributed to a number of corporations and ministries to date.
