The popularity of e-wallet increased 19 percent compared to 2020, shifting virtual accounts.

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - According to data from Xendit, a Financial Technology (Fintech) company, E-Wallet is the most popular Digital Payment in 2021. Over 150 million transactions were recorded by Xendit, 43% of those are of E-Wallet. That number went up from the 2020s 24%.

E-Wallet usage grows significantly. Compared to early 2021, currently, the growth has reached over 300%, even in November 2021 almost half of Xendit merchants provided E-Wallet payment.

Following closely are virtual accounts, which made up 41% of Xendit's transactions. But when compared to 2020, there was a decline from 2020s 58%, which made them the most popular payment option.

Albeit a newcomer, QR code or Quick Response Indonesian Standart (QRIS) secured third place in digital payments. Released in 2019, it took 7% of Xendit's transactions and beat outlet retail and credit cards.

QRIS growth was linked with the government regulation where digital payment can be facilitated using only a code. And on November 2021, every 1 of 5 Xendit merchants has used QR as a payment option.

For the research, the fintech company collected over 150 million of their transactions from November 30, 2020, to November 30, 2021. The transactions were recorded from over 3,000 Xendit active merchants, which consists of 90% SME's and 10% Companies with a total transactions volume of USD 12 billion.
