TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Secretary of the Jakarta Legislative Council (DPRD) Commission B overseeing Economy, Pandapotan Sinaga, expressed pessimism that the race track for Formula E in Ancol will be completed in three months.
Until now, the circuit location is still in the form of a vast muddy field with lots of tree branches scattering in the area.
“I can't believe [it will be ready within] three months. I'm not sure if this facility can be used as a race track for an international scale event,” said Pandapotan in Ancol, North Jakarta, Wednesday, December 29.
On Tuesday, members of Commission B monitored the location of the circuit in the Ancol Carnaval Beach area, next to Ancol Jimbaran Resto.
According to him, the land was used to be a swamp and a mud reservoir area resulting from the dredging of the Jakarta mass rapid transit (MRT) project and the river. “The area used to be flooded,” he added.
This PDIP politician assessed that land clearing will likely take at least six months. However, to the council members, the city-owned developer PT Jakarta Propertindo (Jakpro) vowed to complete asphalting the area in three months with the use of technology.
Previously, the Managing Director of Jakarta Eprix Gunung Kartiko said that the asphalting process will be commenced after the contractor is appointed. The Formula E race track is targeted to be constructed starting the end of January to March 2022 and so it will be ready in April 2022.
