TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reminded the people of the tidal flood predicted to occur sometime between December 18 to December 22, 2021. Deputy of Meteorology of BMKG Guswanto, said that the tidal flood level in Indonesia may increase because of the full moon and high rain intensity in several Indonesian regions.

"Several Indonesian coastal regions are encouraged to remain alert for the possible increase in maximum tide level and the possibility of coastal floods," Guswanto said in his written statement on Friday, December 17, 2021.

Tidal floods are predicted to occur in 23 regions in Indonesia, one of which is Jakarta. Other regions include, Belawan, Natuna Island, Riau Archipelago, Bangka Belitung, Lampung, Banten, West Java, Central Java, East Java, and Bali.

Tidal floods are also predicted to occur in West Kalimantan, South Kalimantan, East Kalimantan, West Sulawesi, North Sulawesi, South Sulawesi, Gorontalo, Ternate, Halmahera, northern part of West Papua, northern part of Papua, and Merauke.

Guswanto asserted that tidal flood can disrupt people's activities, such as loading and unloading activities in ports, salt ponds and inland fisheries. Activities in coastal residential areas will also be disrupted.

"Such condition can generally disrupt people's daily activities around ports and coastal areas," Guswanto said.
