TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Minister of Social Affairs Tri Rismaharini (Risma) has stated that she personally supported the castration punishment for the perpetrator of the rape case against dozens of students in Bandung, as his actions has broken the victims' bright future.

"I personally support it (the castration) because it's related to the future of the victims and thir children," she said at Social Affairs Ministry Office in Jakarta on Tuesday, December 14.

According to Risma, the students who were raped are still traumatized. Her ministry is accompanying the victims until they recover. "We'll accompany them until they return like other children. We're not only talking about the parents but also their children that must be given attention."

Supports also came from Secretary General of Nahdlatul Ulama, one of the known Islamic organizations in Indonesia, Helmy Faishal Zaini. He supports the castration of Herry Wirawan, the owner and teacher of the Islamic boarding school (pesantren) who raped dozens of his own students.

"HW's action must be punished with accordingly, including castration, as his action has hurt people, traumatizing and took the victims' future," he said.
