Asian Youth Para Games; Indonesia Brings Home 12 Gold Medals

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian para athletes brought home 37 medals that consist of 12 gold, 11 silver and 14 bronze medals from the 2021 Asian Youth Para Games (AYPG) that took place in Manama, Bahrain, on December 2-6.
The 2021 Asian Youth Para Games, also known as the 4th Asian Youth Para Games is the fourth edition of multi-sport events for Asian para athletes.
The gold medals came from Ryan Arda Diarta who won the 200-meter men's T44, Muhamad Dimas Ubaidillah (400m men’s T11), Firza Faturahman Listianto (100m men’s T46), and Sholahuddin Al-Ayyubi (men's shot put F41).
Three gold medals were won in para-swimming through M. Gerry Pahker at the100-meter breaststroke men SB6 and Mutiara Cantik Harsanto (100m butterfly S9 and 100m backstroke women's S9).
In the para-weightlifting, Indonesia won two gold medals through Dwiska Afrilia Maharani (79kg female) and Elsa Dewi Saputri (+86kg female).
The para-badminton team also won two gold medals, respectively, through Hikmat Ramdani/Adinda Nugraheni (SL3-SL4/SU5) mixed doubles and Hikmat Ramdani (SU5 men's singles).
Meanwhile, Febriyanti Vani Rahmadhan contributed one gold from the women's boccia category for the women's BC 2 category.
Deputi Chef de Mission Andar Perdana Widiastono said they initially did not aim to win medals in the AYPG 2021 but rather to provide opportunities for the athletes, which were mainly debutants, to gain experience in competing atan international level sporting event.
In total, Indonesia mobilized 35 of its best young athletes to the Asian Youth Para Games and competed in sporting events such as para athletics, badminton, powerlifting, swimming, taekwondo, and table tennis.
