TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno, has said that the recently-concluded 2021 World Superbike (WSBK) event in Mandalika, West Nusa Tenggara, helped boost the local economy.

"The ministry lauds all parties who partook in the effort to ensure the 2021 World Superbike event was successfully organized with no disruptions, and residents also enjoyed this international event," Uno stated during a press briefing on Monday.

The Indonesia Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) has reported that the WSBK event has created a multiplier effect that has augmented Lombok Island's economy, the minister said.

According to the corporation, one local transportation company recorded Rp70 million in revenue by early November 2021 compared to just Rp10–15 million before the event, Sandiaga Uno noted.

ITDC also recorded a 95-percent occupancy rate in the hospitality industry during the event compared to just 15 percent prior to the event, he added.

"Revenue for local hotels also increased 85 percent, compared to the maximum 15 percent reached before the WSBK," the minister pointed out.

The WSBK event also provided a golden opportunity to local MSMEs (micro, small, and medium enterprises), particularly food and beverage enterprises, and they benefited from the event, Sandiaga Uno highlighted.

The event also absorbed 1,475 workers from six villages around Mandalika, he added.

"The local workforces partook as marshals and crew in COVID-19 safety, medical, event, crowd control, documentation, hygiene, ticket, transportation, and waste management teams," the minister informed.

The WSBK event also increased Central Lombok district's regional original revenues, with the entertainment tax revenue increasing by 15 percent, parking retribution by 30 percent, and restaurant and hotel tax by 15 percent, he said.

The minister also highlighted the increase in Lombok Airport passenger arrival that recorded a daily average of 5,700 passengers during the WSBK event from November 17–23, 2021, he added.

"The passenger number is increasing by 50 percent compared with the earlier period the recorded the average daily ridership only at 3,800 passengers," Uno stated.

Flight movement at the airport also increased by 43 percent, reaching a daily average of 53 flights during the WSBK from 37 daily flights recorded on average from November 1–16, he added.
