President Jokowi to Close the Papua National Paralympic Games

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Youth and Sports Minister (Menpora) Zainudin Amali on Tuesday confirmed that President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo will be present in the Papua National Paralympic Games closing ceremony or Peparnas Papua slated for November 13 at the Mandala Jayapura stadium.
The Minister added that the President will also be there to attend one sporting event and award medals for the athletes after the state leader was absent in the games’ opening ceremony on November 5.
Vice President Ma’ruf Amin was present at the opening to replace the President who was undergoing quarantine following an overseas state visit.
“President Joko Widodo will be present in person to close the Peparnas,” he confirmed in a press statement on November 9. “He plans to visit one of the venues that are hosting the Papua National Paralympic Games.”
Moreover, the Youth and Sports Minister said the Papua National Paralympic Games overall proceeded as planned despite minor setbacks as the sporting event entered its fourth day. Out of the 12 sporting categories and 640 events in total, the Games saw records being broken in a number of sporting classes, namely swimming and athletics.The last champion was West Java in 2016.
