TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Religious Affairs Minister Yaqut Qolil Qoumas in a written statement on Tuesday advocated the sexual violence prevention and handling act (PPKS) No.30/2021 introduced by the Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Minister.

Upon backing the Act, Minister Yaqut said he will issue a similar circular that will be introduced by the religious affairs ministry’s secretary general for religious state universities (PTKN).

“We advocate the policy that was issued by the Minister,” said the Religious Affairs Minister on November 9. “We will issue the Circular Letter (SE) in support of the Act that will be applied in religious state universities.

Minister Yaqut agrees with Education Minister Nadiem Makarim upon stating that sexual violence is one of the barriers for the national education system to achieve its goal. He also hopes that it can help survivors of this type of violence to be vocal in the future.

“We must not put a blind eye on this matter, that sexual violence often happen in the academic environemnt. We do not want to see this problem persist in the future,” said the Religious Affairs Minister.
