TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Youth and Sports Minister Zainudin Amali on Tuesday announced that the preparation for the country’s 20th National Games (PON) physical facilities are already completed, which consists of the plethora of sports arenas, hostelry, and transportation. The quadrennial event this year is held in Papua.
“The preparation can be considered ready because pre-event testing is being conducted,” said the Minister as a speaker in POLRI TV on September 14. “As for the physical preparation we are close to finishing but little improvements can be made on venues and lodges.”
He called for the general public to view the event not just from the enormous budget on infrastructure developments but called for people to also see it as investing in the development of human resources, which he says cannot be quantified in value as facilities would continue to benefit Papua after the event is done.
The Minister also noted that the scope of Covid-19 vaccinations across four PON Papua clusters have reached 70 percent, comprising Jayapura District, Jayapura City, Merauke, and Mimika.
In terms of fans attendance, the Sports and Youth Minister is hoping they can still be made possible but under limited numbers as the policy about this has not been set and will only be decided this month.
