TEMPO.CO, TangerangMetro Jaya Police Director of Criminal Investigation Unit Sr. Comr. Tubagus Ade Hidayat said eight inmates in Tangerang Prison had been transferred to Tangerang Metro Police on Wednesday afternoon, September 8. According to him, they witnessed the fire that broke out in the penitentiary in the early hours.

“The transfer aims at helping the investigation process,” said Ade in Tangerang on Wednesday.

The eight inmates were among 20 witnesses, that include prison officers and local people, he added. “We have collected evidence and summon 20 witnesses.”

He also said the number of witnesses was likely to increase as the police investigation develops.

Fire blazed in Block C2 of Tangerang Prison in the early hours of Wednesday, September 8. It first broke out at the roof behind the ceiling of the detention room. “The ceiling is made of flammable plywood,” said Ade.

From the results of the field inspection, the police confiscated several pieces of evidence, such as a number of cables and electrical installation lines. Ade ensured that all evidence of the Tangerang Prison fire was at the National Police’s Forensic Laboratory Center for further investigation.
