TEMPO.CO, Tokyo - Tokyo bid farewell to athletes competing at the Tokyo Paralympics. The Tokyo Paralympics were held for 12 days in the midst of the long Covid-19 pandemic.
The head of the International Paralympic Committee Andrew Parsons on Sunday evening, September 5, 2021, at the Olympic Stadium declared that the Tokyo Paralympic Games was finally over. Parsons said the athletes competing at the Tokyo Paralympic had not only made history, but they also had put in a fantastic performance.
Just like the Tokyo Olympics, the 2020 Tokyo Paralympic Games were also postponed for a year due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The challenges faced include the lack of community support in preparing for this match.
Fortunately, all these struggles were paid off. Because there are 86 teams that won medals and 62 teams from that number, at least brought one gold.
“This Paralympic Games has opened the door and it has come for us to break down the barrier. During the Games, we have celebrated diversity, demonstrated humanity and unity in diversity," said Parsons.
The closing ceremony of the 2020 Paralympic Games featured breakdancing with dancers wearing neon clothes, there was a decorative butterfly show and stilt-walkers using recycled materials. Among the athletes performing the parade were two athletes from Afghanistan Hossain Rasouli and Zakia Khudadadi.
Rasouli and Khudadadi wore red and green sportswear, the colors of the Afghan flag. The two seemed to help other athletes decorate a replica of the Skytree tower in Tokyo.
Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike presented the Paralympic flag to Parsons, who in turn presented the flag to the Mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo. If nothing goes wrong, the 2024 Paralympic will be held in the capital city of Paris, France.
