TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Transportation Agency announced the odd-even policy now only takes effect on three roads of the capital city. They are Jalan Jenderal Sudirman and Jalan M.H. Thamrin in Central Jakarta, and Jalan H.R. Rasuna Said in South Jakarta.
Transportation Agency Head Syafrin Liputo said the policy is noted in the agency’s Decree No. 345 of 2021. According to him, the traffic policy is enforced during the level 3 public mobility restrictions or PPKM Level 3 in a bid to reduce people’s mobility, instead of encouraging people to use mass transports.
During the previous PPKM Level 4 period, the policy was valid on eight roads, viz. Jalan Jenderal Sudirman, Jalan MH Thamrin, Jalan Merdeka Barat, Jalan Majapahit, Jalan Gajah Mada, Jalan Hayam Wuruk, Pintu Besar Selatan, and Jalan Gatot Subroto.
Syafrin added that the policy remained valid at the same time from 6 a.m. until 8 p.m. He also explained the traffic system only applied on the three roads because they are the main office areas in the capital city.
The odd-even policy on three roads, he said, will be in effect until August 30, along with the end of PPKM Level 3 in Jakarta. The Transportation Agency and the Police Traffic Directorate will evaluate whether the traffic system is successful to curb the community’s mobility amid the more relaxed restrictions.
