TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo said Indonesia will receive a huge supply of Covid-19 vaccines this week. On this basis, he called on regions to use up available doses sent by the central government quickly so that supplies can be increased.
“For regions, when vaccine supply comes, use it up quickly, then request more, because we will get many more vaccines this week in order to create herd immunity so as to protect us from Covid-19,” said the President in a video conference with a number of regional heads on Thursday, August 19.
Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin previously said that around 90 million doses of the Covid-19 vaccine had arrived in Indonesia in the last seven months. He said the number increased by 70 million doses this month. The government will thus continue to accelerate vaccination.
Budi said Indonesia has administered 83 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines as of August 16. The first 50 million shots were achieved within 27 weeks. President Jokowi, he added, asked for the vaccination target to be sped up to 50 million doses in seven weeks.
“We are working hard so we can reach 100 million vaccinations by the end of this month,” said Budi.
