TEMPO.CO, JakartaJakarta Governor Anies Baswedan asked the capital city residents to stay home on Saturday and Sunday as the number of Covid-19 cases keeps rising.

"We know that Jakarta is not in a good condition. The second wave of this pandemic is still hitting the city hard,” he said Friday, June 25.

The governor reminded that Jakarta logged the highest record of daily Covid cases of 7,505 infections last Thursday.

Anies said the number of active cases in Jakarta continues to rise. Until yesterday, there were more than 40,000 active cases in the capital, comprising the confirmed positive cases and those who are isolating at home or hospital.

Meanwhile, the highest number of active Covid-19 cases during the first wave of the pandemic was 27,000.

According to the governor, the city administration had increased the number of tests to 13.5 times the standard set by WHO. “Based on the calculation of Indonesian proportion, about 45 to 50 percent testing in Indonesia was done in Jakarta,” Anies said.

The hospital capacity also continues to be increased, far way higher than the hospital capacity in the first Covid-19 wave. “We even have to use emergency tents on the hospital yards.”

Therefore, Anies Baswedan asked the people of Jakarta to do weekend activities at home. “Let’s stay at home on Saturday-Sunday. Be patient, hopefully, we can get through this time faster,” he remarked.
