The police have named four people as suspects in the shooting and assault case at West Jakarta's Taman Sari sub-district. The suspects are JP (46), HS (41), DT (36) and FW (25).
Ady said the incident began when the suspects were celebrating a friend's birthday at 01:00 am on Tuesday, June 22. During the party at a rented house in Taman Sari, they drank and made noises, disturbing their neighbors.
"At the time, a lot of the neighbors came over to warn them," Ady said.
Instead of toning it down, they got angry and argued with the neighbors. During the commotion, JP fired his gun—pointed upwards—while the other three suspects pulled out machetes.
Afterwards, they entered their car after the locals forced them to leave. It was during this time that, according to witnesses, "the suspect fired another shot, but this time the gun was pointed straight ahead instead of upwards," Ady said.
The shot hit Moch. Idris Saputra (18) on his left underarm and went through. He is now in intensive care at a hospital.
Following the incident, the police arrested 10 people in Bukit Duri Tebet, Jakarta Selatan, and four were immediately named as suspects.
During the arrest, the police also confiscated a number of sharp weapons, an airsoft softgun, and a revolver.
The suspects are charged with Emergency Law No.12/1951 on firearms as well as Articles of Child Protection No.23/2002 and articles 354 and 338 of the Criminal Code (KUHP). They are facing up to 20 years in prison.
