TEMPO.CO, Bandung - West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil asked the West Java Regional Police to prepare roadblocks to prevent tourists from entering Greater Bandung. Bandung is now in Siaga or Alert 1 status following a surge in Covid-19 cases.
“I just ordered it, the technical thing is under the Kapolda (Regional Police Chief),” said Kamil in Bandung, Wednesday, June 16.
He said a number of roads will be blocked. “The Regional Police will prepare roadblocks this weekend to ensure that not many people whose unimportant agendas visit Greater Bandung,” Kamil explained.
The governor appealed to tourists not to visit the Greater Bandung area. “Especially this weekend...because Bandung is on Alert 1. The hospital's occupancy rate is already above 80 percent. If there is negligence, and people insist on coming, it will make the situation more out of control,” he underlined.
Kamil said the declaration of Alert 1 status for Greater Bandung will be evaluated in a week. With the status, offices in the Bandung Greater area must operate at 25 percent capacity with the remaining employees working from home. “This is part of the emergency control,” he added.
Ridwan Kamil further asserted that strong discipline in the health protocols is the only key to suppress the spread of Covid-19 cases. “No matter how vicious the virus variants are, the answer is the same, exercise stricter, stronger discipline and minimize unnecessary activities,” he said.
