TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati highlighted the dramatic surge in Covid-19 cases after the Eid holiday during a work meeting with the Finance Commission of the House of Representatives (DPR). The surge affected the hospital bed occupancy rate (BOR) at Wisma Atlet Covid-19 Emergency Hospital, Jakarta.
Sri explained that the BOR at Wisma Atlet was previously at 16 percent. The figure then rose gradually to 29 percent and 33 percent. The latest report said the rate hit 80 percent. “So there is an extraordinary hike,” she said in the meeting at the DPR building, Jakarta, Monday, June 14.
Sri also mentioned that the trend of the Covid-19 hike has shifted. Initially, the increase of virus infections after the Eid holiday occurred outside Java, such as Riau, Aceh, West Sumatra, South Sumatra, up to West Kalimantan. But now, the surge was recorded in Java regions.
This situation, Sri went on, will affect the assessment of the Financial System Stability Committee (KSSK) on the national financial system in the second quarter of 2021. The committee stated that the national financial system in the first quarter is still normal.
The bed occupancy rate in Wisma Atlet that reached 80 percent has been previously announced by Jakarta Health Agency. They have prepared 28 isolation centers as alternatives to Wisma Atlet.
“If the occupancy rate at Wisma Atlet gets more than 80 percent, isolation centers prepared by the provincial government will be opened,” said the Jakarta Health Agency Head of Public Health Unit, Fify Mulyani, on Tuesday, June 8.
