Mount Sinabung Eruption Spewing 1 Km Hot Clouds

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Regional Disaster Mitigation Ageny (BPBD) of Karo Regency, North Sumatra announced Mount Sinabung eruption on Saturday, March 27, at around 12 p.m. It produced ash clouds measuring 1,000 meters heading to the east and southeast.

"Meanwhile, the crater produces white smokes with thick intensity at 100-500 meters above the peak of the crater," said BPBD acting chief in Karo Regency, Natanail Perangin-angin on Saturday, March 27.

He explained that the weather surrounding the 2,460-meter above sea level volcano was cloudy, with the wind blowing weakly to the west and southwest in 18-24 dgrees Celcius temperature.

Currently, the volcano is at level III (Siaga) alert. Therefore, the locals and farmers are reccommended to not doing activities in empty villages, as the pople had been evacuated, and in the radius of three kilometers from the peak of Mount Sinabung.

Meanwhile, the sectoral radius is at five kilometers for the south-east sector and four kilometer for east-north sector.

If ash falls occur, people living surrounding the Mount Sinabung areas are advised to wear masks when going out.
