TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Kualanamu Airport acting spokesperson Paulina Simbolon on Tuesday claims that the volcanic ash produced by the eruption of Mount Sinabung in North Sumatra has not affected airtraffic in the airport.
The acting manager of Angkasa Pura II Kualanamu Airport communications and legal said that the eruption of the mountain located in Karo Regency is not affecting the safe visibility level for commercial flights in the state-run airport located in Deli Serdang.
Simbolon assured this as the ash clouds from the eruption had moved to the west and that the “visibility level is still acceptable above 10-kilometers.”
Mount Sinabung erupted on Tuesday morning at 07:15 WIB (Western Indonesian Time) followed by a string of eruptions that caused ash columns to rise up to 5,000 meters. “The column reached 5,000 meters,” said Karo Regency Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) acting-head Natanail Peranginangin on Tuesday, March 3.
