TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The search and rescue team (SAR) from the Indonesian Navy reported that a massive amount of underwater wreckage hampered the search for the black box of the Sriwijaya Air SJ182 plane that crashed into the waters of Seribu Islands, Jakarta.
“The huge volume of the aircraft and the high 'impact' on the sea surface cause the goods (black box) buried in the debris,” said the SAR task force commander Adm. Yayan Sofyan at JICT II Tanjung Priok Jakarta, Monday night, Jan. 11.
Today, Jan. 12, the team consisting of divers from the Indonesian Navy planned to unravel the plane debris to ease the effort. “[The team] will dive into the wreckage one by one, open them, and bring them to the sea surface.”
The black box reportedly emitted a signal from one point and that the SAR team had heard the sound of "ping" twice around the search location. Last Sunday, divers had localized the site. “Yet this does not mean that the black box has been found,” Yayan added.
Sriwijaya Air with flight number SJ-182 serving the route of Jakarta-Pontianak lost contact on Saturday afternoon at 14:40 local times, Jan. 9, and crashed into the waters of Lancang Island and Laki Island of Seribu Islands, Jakarta.
