DPR to Summon Govt for Excluding Teachers from CPNS Recruitments

4 January 2021 12:15 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The House of Representatives (DPR) Commission X which oversees education, youth, sport, tourism, arts and culture affairs on Monday claims it was not involved in the government’s decision to exclude teachers from taking the civil servant enrollment test (CPNS) route.

“The DPR was not involved in the discussion at all,” said House Commission X Speaker Syaiful Huda to Tempo on Monday, January 4.

Previously reported, the government yet again made a controversial decision to no longer include teachers under the CPNS category and change the profession to government employees with work agreements (PPPK). The agreement was made between the administrative and bureaucratic reform minister, education and culture minister, and the national civil service agency (BKN).

According to Syaiful, the House of Representatives commission X members will summon the three government institutions upon a hearing and question the policy on January 11. “If it is still a plan, we hope that it will be revoked,” he said.

Syaiful fears that the policy will greatly reduce the interest towards teaching as a profession. He also believes being a teacher is a profession that needs to be supported with high living standards and job stability to guarantee their welfare, which he believes is provided if teachers have the opportunity to become a civil servant (PNS).
