South Jakarta Mayor Urges People to Avoid Gathering for New Year's Celebrations

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - South Jakarta Mayor Marullah Matali urged residents not to join or hold New Year celebrations to prevent further transmission of Covid-19. Through the Instagram account of the Communication and Informatics Ministry, he advised people not to engage in events that draw crowds.
Marullah reminded that the coronavirus pandemic situations in Jakarta have not improved, with daily cases increasing and hospital beds capacity almost reaching its limit.
"Let's make sure our families and residents stay healthy and protected from COVID-19," he said via Instagram on Wednesday, December 30, as reported by ANTARA
Marullah also appealed to business actors in the South Jakarta area to comply with the operating hours limit set by the Jakarta government during the New Year 2021 holiday.
From December 24 to 27 and from December 31 to January 3 next year, businesses like restaurants, shopping centers and cafes must close up by 19:00.
"Together, let's guard Jakarta," he said, reminding everyone to always follow health protocols.
