TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) Speaker Bambang Soesatyo voiced support to the Jakarta government led by Anies Baswedan to pull the emergency brake following the rising Covid-19 cases in the capital city.
“I support the policy that will be taken by the Jakarta Provincial Government which is the emergency brake by considering economic, political, social, and cultural conditions, hoping it will drop the number of Covid-19 cases,” said Bambang, who is familiarly called Bamsoet, in his statement on Tuesday, Dec. 29.
He also asked the city administration to synergize with other regional governments, especially neighboring regions such as Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi.
According to him, it is also necessary to collaborate in other policies that could break the chain of coronavirus transmission, such as tightening large-scale social restrictions or PSBB particularly in areas classified as the red zone.
“So the positive impact can be felt more widely, not only in the Jakarta area,” he added.
Bamsoet also asked the Jakarta administration of Anies Baswedan to keep preparing isolation and ICU beds as an anticipatory measure to provide optimal health services for the community given that the daily number of patients could not be predicted.
“I ask the Jakarta Provincial Government to evaluate the implementation of the PSBB comprehensively and correct shortcomings in the previous PSBB application,” he said.
