KPK Arrests State Minister; Gerindra Politician Slams Prabowo Subianto

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Gerindra Party politician, Arief Poyuono, on Wednesday reminded party members to support the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) following the anti-graft agency’s arrest on Maritime and Fisheries Minister Edhy Prabowo - who has close ties to the political party. 

Many believe Edhy’s arrest is linked to corruption in the export of lobster seeds, a policy Edhy reintroduced as soon as he was appointed as state minister. 

Arief, in a written statement on November 25, took the moment to strongly criticize Defense Minister and Gerindra Party chair Prabowo Subianto. 

“This is a major lesson and a huge blow for Prabowo as Edhy Prabowo’s boss. After numerous warnings against corruption [Prabowo Subianto] deems has entered stadium four, it turns out one of his own was arrested in a sting operation (OTT).”

He also believes Edhy’s arrest will affect Gerindra Party’s electability and is adamant that this incident lies within the responsibility of Prabowo Subianto. 

“Prabowo Subianto must take responsibility for Gerindra voters for his inability to impose discipline of his political party cadres,” Arief wrote. 

Maritime and Fisheries Minister Edhy Prabowo is undergoing a KPK investigation. The agency has 24 hours to announce his status officially, which is why Gerindra officials have yet announced any statement regarding this incident.
