TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The national COVID-19 task force spokesperson Wiku Adisasmito revealed that the government will not be able to entirely cover the costs of future COVID-19 vaccinations, noting only groups that are considered a priority - who are at the most risk of contracting the virus - and people in strategic positions that will receive the vaccine free of charge.
“People need to understand that the vaccine’s research needs a lengthy process to complete and involves large numbers of resources,” said Wiku in a press conference on Thursday, October 22.
He explained that the government is identifying the groups that can be classified as receivers of the totally-subsidized vaccinations.
“The government will try to evenly distribute the vaccines to reach herd immunity,” said the COVID-19 task force spokesman.
The government, represented by Health Minister Terawan Agus Putranto, previously said the government will cover the costs for those who are financially unable to pay for the vaccination and those who are at the front line of the battle against COVID-19.
