TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Destructive Fishing Watch (DFW) Indonesia Coordinator, Mohamad Abdi Suhufan, said he had received the report on the finding of five dead bodies of Indonesian ship crews.
According to the police report, the bodies were discovered inside the cold storage of the KM Starindo Jaya Maju VI fishing boat as it sailed the waters of Pari Island, Kepulauan Seribu (Thousand Islands).
DFW Indonesia and a team from Fisher Center - an organization accommodating ship crews’ complaints - are moving in and tracking down more information regarding the incident among the ship crew community.
"[To find out] whether the bodies were from foreign or domestic fishing vessels," Suhufan told Tempo on late Thursday, September 17.
The Kepulauan Seribu police chief, Adj. Commissioner Morry Ermond on Thursday confirmed the finding of the five bodies, which were then taken to the Kramat Jati Hospital in East Jakarta for an autopsy. The ship’s skipper and crew are currently secured at the local police station for further questioning.
