TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-owned Enterprises (SOEs) Minister Erick Thohir said Friday state enterprises would help fix Indonesia’s business ecosystem and the national business supply chain. The minister noted that acquiring international enterprises would be one of the ways to achieve that.
“All we know is that we’ve always been a market, but how long do we want that to last? What we hope to achieve by acquiring foreign enterprises is simply to fix our supply chain,” said Erick Thohir on a live broadcast on July 17.
Erick maintained the move would not be a mere “gimmick”, but rather improve the nation's shortcomings, such as in the logistical and technological aspects, even though he acknowledged Indonesia’s natural resources prowess.
To kickstart the "breakthrough strategy", Erick said he had made a deal with Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi to push state-owned enterprises to “go global,” which was signed between both state ministers in a memorandum of understanding (MoU).
“[With God’s permission] we will feel the benefits as it is time for Indonesia to be on a par with, or even exceed other countries,” said the Erick Thohir.
