TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The State-owned Enterprises (SOEs) Minister Erick Thohir on Thursday said that the COVID-19 pandemic cannot be separated from economic issues, which is why he predicts Indonesia’s economy will completely recover 100 percent by the year 2022.
“Next year may see a 75 percent improvement. The first quarter of 2022 can reach 100 percent just as in 2019. But that also depends on the type of business,” said Erick Thohir in his virtual acceptance speech in a healthcare workers’ event today.
Erick made it clear that businesses must adapt to the latest ‘new normal’ as things would definitely change the following months of social restriction.
“We must agree that COVID-19 not only affected life in terms of health but also the economy, which we must be able to handle collectively,” said Erick Thohir.
During the event, Erick also mentioned the United States’ COVID-19 cases that are on the rise along with hopes of finding the vaccine. “I hope I am proven wrong and [the vaccine] can be discovered by the end of the year and will be produced the following year together with a solution.”
