Mudik Ban, Jasa Marga to Close Jakarta-Cikampek II Elevated Toll

23 April 2020 14:06 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-owned toll road operator PT Jasa Marga is currently preparing for the closure of the Jakarta-Cikampek II Elevated Toll Road, in response to the letter from the Indonesian National Police Chief of Traffic Corps, issued on April 23, 2020, regarding a request to close the elevated toll road.

“Currently, we are reporting our plan to the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing who has the authority to impose toll road closure," said Jasa Marga Corporate Chief of Communication Development, Dwimawan Heru, on Thursday, April 23, 2020.

Previously, President Joko Widodo had decided to officially impose a national ban on mudik, or homecoming, to curb the COVID-19 outbreak, in a limited meeting on Tuesday, April 22, 2020.

As a result, the Police Force requested for the closure of the Jakarta-Cikampek II Elevated Toll starting from Friday at 00:00 WIB (local time), April 24, in time with the enactment of the ban. Whereas the regular Jakarta-Cikampek Toll Road will continue to operate with blockade.

According to Dwimawan, Jasa Marga is principally supportive of the efforts done by the Police and the Ministry of Transportation in regards to ensuring that passing vehicles would be in accordance with the rules set by the government through the Mudik Ban.

Prior to the Jakarta-Cikampek II Elevated Toll closure, Jasa Marga had prepared socialization efforts through VMS on the toll roads in the Greater Jakarta region, as well as through the company’s own social media platforms.

"To find out the latest information regarding toll roads managed by Jasa Marga, toll road users can also access the Jasa Marga Call Center 24 hours on telephone number 14080," he said.

Dwimawan also appealed to all private vehicles on the toll road to obey the regulations set by the government. "We urge the people to remain at home, to curb the COVID-19 outbreak,” he added.
