TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Police Traffic Corps has collected data on the number of public transportation drivers; including taxi, bus, truck, angkot, motorcycle taxi, becak, Bajaj, and bemo, throughout Indonesia, eligible to receive Rp600,000 in aid, over three-course of three months.
"The police have identified 197,256 people across the nation to receive assistance from the Safety Program," said Chief of the National Police Traffic Corps Inspector General Istiono, through a written statement on Thursday, April 16, 2020.
Istiono explained that the distribution of the assistance, in collaboration with the Indonesian People’s Bank (BRI), would be carried out simultaneously across 34 provinces divided into three stages. In the case that the drivers do not have a bank account, a BRI account will be made.
"In the spirit of physical distancing, the assistance will later be transferred through an account. They will get a savings book and debit card," Istiono continued.
The first stage would take place from April 15 until May 15, the second phase from May 16 until June 15, and the third phase from June 16 until July 15.
“We hope that the Safety Program can commence in an orderly manner and the recipients set to receive this assistance are correctly identified," Istiono added.
