Jakarta Crime Rate Drops due to Remote Working: Police

27 March 2020 16:12 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaThe remote working policy applied by many companies to prevent the spread of the coronavirus infection or Covid-19 was attributable to the drop in crime rate in Jakarta, the city Metro Police recorded.

"There is indeed a decrease both in crime rate and report. Hopefully, the trend can remain still and keep dropping so that the capital will be safe," said the Metro Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Yusri Yunus when contacted on Friday, March 27, 2020.

When asked about the drop percentage, Yusri claimed that the calculation was still afoot. However, the number of criminal cases declined from that of last year's 32,610 cases.

"It is certainly dropping and we are calculating it," said Yusri.

Previously, President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo called on the public to minimize outdoor activities. The appeal was aimed at curbing the potential risk of the coronavirus transmission among the community.

"In this [outbreak] situation, this is time for us to work from home (WFH), study at home [for students], and perform prayers at home," Jokowi underlined.

In addition, Jakarta provincial administration closed schools and instructed students to carry out remote learning. The policy will last until April 13, 2020.
