TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-owned railway operator PT KAI stated that per March 10, at least 835,000 tickets for this year’s Eid homecoming or Lebaran had been sold out. Most of the best selling tickets were for departure date on D-3 or May 21, reaching 56,000 tickets.
“And the best selling date for the homecoming return is on May 27 or D+2 up to 58,000 tickets,” said the firm’s Vice President of Public Relations Yuskal Setiawan in a statement, Tuesday, March 10.
Meanwhile, the favorite destinations included Solo, Semarang, Yogyakarta, Surabaya, and Malang. Yuskal explained that based on the Rail Ticketing System data, the tickets sold reached 30 percent.
According to him, the number of ticket sales that kicked off on February 14 will increase until Eid al-Fitr. Last month, the firm made the tickets available for the departure date starting from for D-10 to D+10 of Eid 2020 with a total of 2.8 million seats for special long-distance routes.
After a month, Yuskal claimed the company did not encounter any significant problems. “The sales perform well, and there is no significant obstacle,” he said, adding that his side had optimized the system by increasing its capacity and bandwidth to two folds.
The tickets, he went on, are also available through official agents such as online travel agents or OTA. If there is a high public interest during this year's Eid homecoming season, Yuskal said the KAI will study the procurement of additional trains.
