TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW) is pressing President Joko Widodo or Jokowi to remove Yasonna Laoly from his position as Minister of Law and Human Rights (Menkumham).
ICW researcher, Wana Alamsyah, stated that ICW’s demands for Yasonna’s removal came after the misleading information provided by Yasonna, regarding the whereabouts of Harun Masiku, a suspect in the bribery case of Commissioner of the General Election Commission (KPU) Wahyu Setiawan.
"The KPK (Corruption Eradication Commission) must investigate allegations of hindrance done by Yasonna Laoly when providing misleading information,” Wana conveyed in a written statement, on Thursday, January 23, 2020.
In response, acting spokesman for the KPK, Ali Fikri, said the allegation of hindrance done by Minister Yasonna in the investigation of Harun Masiku as a suspect, needs further inspection; a deeper analysis is needed on the application of Article 21 of the Anti-Corruption Law.
"Moreover, immigration stated that they will, first, check whether there was a deliberate factor in the lack of recording of Harun’s arrival from Singapore,” Ali said in the Merah Putih Building, on Thursday, January 23.
Ali's statement was conveyed in connection with the Anti-Corruption Civil Society Coalition report that Menkumham Yasonna Laoly violated Article 21 of the Corruption Law Number 31 of 1999 in conjunction with Law Number 20 of 2001.
