TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Education and Cultural Affairs Minister Nadiem Makarim will be promoting an education policy concept named "Merdeka Belajar” during his term as a minister. The Minister explained that the concept stems its inspiration from the education system of education pioneer Ki Hajar Dewantara.
The "Merdeka Belajar" concept is expected to liberate education institutions and provide solution for children to be creative and innovative.
"This is what Indonesia needs in the future. I am sorry, but the world doesn't need children who are good at memorizing," said Nadiem in a meeting with House of Representatives (DPR) Commission X on Thursday, December 12, 2019.
Nadiem said that the concept is being finalized and hopefully, it can be implemented by the education ministry. He also calls people to be patient and wait until the concept is completed in the following months.
"Every time, I am saddened by the reactions stating that experiments could not be done in the world of education. I always hear that all too often," said Nadiem Makarim.
