TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo, or Jokowi, urged state-owned enterprises (SOE) to accommodate local businesses and private enterprises into national infrastructure projects spread across Indonesian regions.
“SOEs should not take all of the projects, give room for the private industry that also includes local businesses to be involved in the country’s infrastructure development,” said the president in launching the Indonesia Construction 2019 event held at JIExpo Kemayoran, in Jakarta today.
He claims to often hear reports from local contractors in provinces that do not available the possibility for the private sector to handle infrastructure projects.
“Local contractors in the provincial level often complain to me and ask; ‘Pak why are [all the projects] taken by the SOEs.’ I have issued the order, not just once or twice. I hope the role the private industry gets in the future can be given ample opportunities,” said Jokowi.
