TEMPO.CO, Bogor - Most of the villages in the 40 sub-districts of Bogor Regency are suffering from drought and clean water crisis during this year's prolonged dry season, the Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) reported.
“Almost all villages in the 40 sub-districts of Bogor regency are facing drought and clean water crisis because of this year’s prolonged dry season,” said Bogor BPBD emergency head, Muhamad Adam Hamdani, Monday, October 7.
Adam said the red zones or areas that were severely experiencing water shortages were in the eastern regency, viz. Citeureup, Gunungputri, Klapanunggal, Cileungsi, Jonggol, Cariu, Tanjungsari, and Sukamakmur.
“A total of 87 villages in 8 sub-districts in the eastern area of Bogor regency are suffering the most from drought,” Adam said.
As a result, many have contracted multiple diseases as they consume muddy drinking water.
“Based on reports from Health Agency officers, several students in one of the Islamic boarding schools in Klapanunggal fall ill because of consuming dirty drinking water,” he added.
According to Adam, other than East Bogor, several sub-districts in the north, west, and south regions included in the red zones of drought and water crisis are Parungpanjang, Rumpin, Gunungsundur, Tenjo, Cigudeg, Jasinga, Lewuiliang, Caringin, Cigombong, and Cijeruk.
“This year’s dry season is the worst ever in Bogor regency,” Adam remarked.
