TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has sent an official letter asking the House of Representatives to postpone ratifying the revisions of the KPK Law No.30/2002 on Monday, September 16.

The KPK took the opportunity to request a copy of the draft bill and more details regarding the revision for further internal studies.

“The KPK has sent the letter to the House this afternoon that essentially asks legislators to postpone the ratification of KPK Draft Bill,” said KPK spokesman Febri Diansyah on Monday.

He maintained that the Law’s establishment should involve people from various degrees of studies such as academics, the general public, and the parties that would be affected by the revisions. The KPK also officially asked House lawmakers to not hastily and forcefully discuss the KPK Law revisions.

Trisakti University’s criminal law expert Abdul Fickar Hadjar, meanwhile, said a number of elements changed in the revisions such as the reworked wiretapping law and the tremendous authority granted to the KPK Supervisory Board could potentially be abused to control the anti-graft agency.

“The KPK’s performance in terms of prosecution will not be as progressive,” said the expert.
