TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Democratic Party chairman Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) plans to deliver a speech after his eight-month political break. The former president reportedly will speak of the future of his party.
“His speech is a contemplation of his eight-month hiatus,” said the party's secretary-general, Hinca Pandjaitan, on the sidelines of the inauguration of the party’s central executive board (DPP) office on Jalan Proklamasi, Menteng, Central Jakarta, Monday, September 9.
According to him, the speech that will be delivered tonight, September, 9 is the party chair’s contemplation results of national issues, himself, and his family.
“So [the speech] will be about important things for us for the next five years,” he added
Since the passing of his wife, Ani Yudhoyono, which coincided with the 2019 presidential election, SBY took a break from the political realm. The party's campaigns were then entrusted to its Joint Task Force Commander (Kogasma) Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono or AHY, SBY's eldest son.
The speech will be delivered at SBY's residence in Puri Cikeas, Bogor, in line with the 100th-day ceremony (tahlilan) for the remembrance of Ani Yudhoyono’s passing. Some 2,000 party cadres reportedly will join the event after attending the party’s anniversary and office inauguration this morning.
